Welcome to Family and Consumer Sciences,
National Studies and reports provide statistics, which confirm that many societal changes are affecting the American family. Family and Consumer Sciences courses are addressing these changes. It is the only program and body of knowledge that formally prepare individuals for changes. It is the only program and body of knowledge that formally prepare individuals for family life. Educating individuals and families to anticipate and deal with daily concerns is a legitimate and important aspect of any Family and Consumer Sciences program. Some of these issues include development of a positive self-concept, the impact of increased fitness and nutrition in the family, the impact of unemployment on home and family life, teen pregnancy, the impact of consumers’ behaviors on the environment, changes in family structure and lifestyles, care giving for children and the elderly, family literacy, entrepreneurship, and the impact of advanced technology on home and daily life.
Our student organization-Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA)- is co-curricular and provides a vehicle for students to practice and implement the skills learned in competitive events and to develop their leadership potential.
