This web site gives information to the community, students, current and future Family and Consumer Sciences teachers about the facets of the department.

    > Program Overview

Family and consumer sciences (FCS) is the comprehensive body of skills, research, and knowledge that helps people make informed decisions about their well being, relationships, and resources to achieve optimal quality of life. The field represents many areas, including human development, personal and family finance, housing and interior design, food science, nutrition, and wellness, textiles and apparel, and consumer issues practical arts courses.
Family and consumer sciences Education is also a group of planned, specialized instructional programs structured to prepare students to enter, advance, and refine prescribed competencies necessary to transition into postsecondary education and the workforce in the family and consumer sciences career clusters.
 
Family and consumer sciences programs area included in 7 of the 16 Career Clusters offered as well as, the traditional family and consumer sciences courses.
The use of technology with sophisticated software plays an integral part in carrying out the tasks in today's home and career. 
The family and consumer sciences education programs at school sites and area technical centers provide state-of-the-art instruction to meet the demands of industry.

p Provide for the development of curriculum materials for secondary and post-secondary programs.

Provide in-service training/technical updating to FCS teachers and industry certification training.

Provide state-of-the-art equipment and software to selected secondary schools and repair funds for equipment.

p Provide support for schools to prepare students for industry certifications.
p
p Provide recruitment and informational materials for schools, parents, and the community.
p
p Provide assistance to family and consumer sciences education students and teachers with Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) , and Academy activities to include leadership, On-the-Job (OJT) training experiences, and internship opportunities.
