The Career and Technical Student Organizations (CTSOs) are an extension of the classroom instructional program by integrating academics and career and technical skills into real work experiences. CTSOs provide career awareness, leadership, motivation, and recognition for career related skills.
Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) is one of the eight Career and Technical Student Organizations. Any student who has taken a course in Family and Consumer Sciences through grade 12 is eligible for active membership in an organized chapter within their school. Teachers certified to teach Family and Consumer Sciences Education can serve as the FCCLA chapter adviser.
Involvement in FCCLA offers members the opportunity to expand their leadership potential and develop skills for life-planning, goal setting, problem solving, decision-making and interpersonal communication-necessary in the home and workplace.
Since 1945, FCCLA members have been making a difference in their families, careers and communities by addressing important personal, work and societal issues through family and consumer sciences education. Today over 227,000 members are active in a network of associations in 50 states as well as in the District of Columbia, the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico.
In Dade County, eighty seven public schools are actively running Family and Consumer Sciences program. Out of 87 schools 31 schools are affiliated with FCCLA chapter. Out of 38 middle schools 11 schools and out of 49 secondary schools 20 schools are affiliated with FCCLA.
